Studying abroad is beneficial to international students because of a number of factors, the main ones being high-quality education, experiencing and immersion in a new culture, gaining a global mindset and expanding future employment prospects.

It is advisable to think about real-life situations before making your choice on where to study. Facts to consider are like the cost of studying in your chosen country (both tuition costs and living costs), your graduates career prospects and welfare/ safety in general. You should also think about what sort of lifestyle you wish to have during your studies. Do you want to live in a big city or a small university town? Do you want arts and culture on your doorstep or world-class sporting facilities? Whatever your interests, be sure to match them up with your study destination so that you really give yourself the best chance of loving your international experience.

There are three main accommodation options to consider: On campus accommodation which are student halls located within your institution of study Off campus accommodation which involves renting your own flat or shared accommodation with other students Homestay accommodation where you live with a host family.

Generally, students who are in good academic standing, without any disciplinary or financial holds are eligible to study abroad.

The institutions of study do everything in their power to ensure all students are safe and healthy while studying abroad by providing comprehensive information before and during their experience. Additionally, the institutions have on-site staff to assist students as they adapt and acclimate to the host culture. Although they do everything they can to prepare students and keep them informed of health and safety information, it is ultimately the student’s responsibility to follow suggestions and guidelines, just as it is their responsibility at home campus.

Getting Started

Once you have made up your mind about where you want to study, you should start to think about choosing a program and a university, if you haven’t already. You can research leading universities to discover universities which are best for your subject, and also consult our Counseling team. You will then want to look closely at the courses offered by the institutions on your short list, as well as researching the local area and lifestyle, admission requirements and both tuition and living costs. Once you have firmly decided on your program and institution of study, you should start to think about your application(s). Application processes differ depending on the university and the country, but generally, our very able Applications department team will assist you with submission of your application(s).

It is advisable to start the application process as early as possible. This is because, the sooner you gain acceptance into a university, the sooner you can arrange your travels. Also for institutions that have an application deadline, you can note down all the relevant application deadlines (set out by your chosen university) in HUGE LETTERS on your calendar to avoid any disappointments.

There are a number of different options when it comes to picking a program. A student should consider their academic, profession/career and personal goals when selecting a program. Our well trained and competent student counselors will guide you through the program selection process.

Yes! At Global Study Uganda, students with their parents are REQUIRED to attend the Pre-Departure briefing before they depart to go to their respective destination of study. On arrival, institutions of study also hold an orientation for all new students on campus prior to the start of the classes.

Institutions recognize that safety is a matter of utmost concern for parents when their child expresses an interest in studying in a foreign country. As part of their pre-departure briefing, parents and students will be given an overview of the university’s various safety precautions, and what they can do personally to ensure they have a safe, fun, and enjoyable study abroad experience. In addition, once students arrive in the pre-approved country of their choosing, they will again go through an extensive on-site orientation where safety precautions will again be reinforced.
